San Elijo Lagoon Restoration, Encinitas, CA
The $64M San Elijo Lagoon Restoration project covered 960 acres and required moving 1,200,000 cubic yards of earth restoring the San Elijo Lagoon to a fully functional wetlands with tidally controlled water levels that foster the natural habitat of many types of fish and various saltwater plant species. Work included dredging, excavation using amphibious equipment, beach restoration, water control structures, stone revetment, irrigation and planting, and plant establishment to ensure a successful, functioning lagoon.
