In March 2014, Marathon Construction was awarded a project to remove the existing UCSD Nimitz Pier and Wharf facility in Point Loma, CA. Demolition work included: removal of the existing pier and wharf (approx. 29,000 SF), removal of 162 concrete and timber pile, and about 11,000 CY of dredging/shoreline excavation, including upland disposal. Improvements included: construction of a new pier and wharf including installation of 129 structural concrete pile and 104 concrete fender pile; Installation of 6,000 ton of shoreline rock revetment; utility upgrades including electrical, storm water, water, air and sewer systems; Installation of 305 LF of precast cutoff wall; upland paving and striping.
