Repair of Munitions Magazine Compound Truck Turnaround at Naval Base, Point Loma

Naval Base Point Loma

August to October 2017

$1,280,000

This project involved enlarging the existing truck turn around area located at the intersection of Sylvester and Ashburn Roads on Naval Base Point Loma. Scope for this project involved evaluating the geologic hazards associated with erosion and potential failure along the sea bluff. A preliminary geologic hazard evaluation was first performed.  Improvements included cutting into the existing slope to provide an area on which to expand the turn-around to 110 ft. diameter and construct a new 1:1 “benched” slope to match the existing ground elevations, as well as re-vegetation of the benched slope with native plant species. The project necessitated removal of current drainage ditch and construction of a new drainage ditch to tie into existing.
